IMMATERIAL LABOR
Enamel paper, oil
2014 — 2015
The graphic series ‘Immaterial labor’ is based on the pictures secretly made by the artist in the facial room. For a casual observer, whose optics the artist is trying on, some ‘beauty and care’ treatments may seem ‘a little creepy or perhaps even too intimate’. However, these kinds of procedures show the difference between the women’s statuses — the one, who is treating, the one, who’s being treated, and those who are waiting their turn. Such a close observation makes the artist feel ‘misplaced’. Turning the low-key photos into the ‘nice’ drawings, she gives the ordinary and boring plots the flair of the secret and mysterious ritual.
